Attend Scallopalooza, it’s Clamtastic!

September 3, 2016

Sarasota Bay Watch's 6th annual fundraiser is getting a new name - "Scallopalooza, It's Clamtastic!". This community-driven scallop program is expanding to include southern hardshell clam restoration!

Partnerships our restaurants have with Sarasota Bay Watch,  Two Docks Shellfish and Bay Shellfish have allowed us to provide our guests with Sunray Venus Clams and other delicious shellfish. The efforts made by Sarasota Bay Watch and your participation at the Scallopalooza will further these partnerships.

Hardshell clams are an important part of our bay's ecosystem, have great economic value, very few natural predators, are more resistant to red tide than other shellfish, and can live for 30 years or longer! Sarasota Bay Watch has volunteers and their boats, restoration experience; scientific partners, expert advisors, and equipment. We are ready to go!

Meanwhile, our scallop restoration program is still going strong! We have scallops in the Community Scallop Nursery at Mote Marine
ready to be placed in cages in the bay for natural spawning. Soon we will collect a new batch of adult brood stock to start the next cycle of scallop restoration.

To maintain this vigorous level of restoration Sarasota Bay Watch needs funds to raise the clams and scallops that replenish natural populations in our local waters. Please, help us by supporting Scallopalooza, It's Clamtastic!
